Transcript From The Show
Lovell: Janelle you pick the vegetables. After each baby I would gain about 60 pounds then I would kill myself at the gym get back in shape and find out I was pregnant again. People at the gym were saying. “How are you doing this?” and I started helping people, mostly women mothers get their bodies back in shape and I thought this would be a good way to make a living.
Gaining sixty pounds 4 times for her four girls was certainly enough inspiration for Lovell Gardenhire to make a living as a personal trainer and a certified sports nutritionist. But Lovell found a special group of women who inspired her to customize a unique training program that is changing their lives.
Linda: You never had breast cancer yet you volunteer to help breast cancer survivors?
Lovell: Yes. The doctors send them home and they feel like a fragile piece of glass.
Linda: You have a wholes set of exercises that help breast cancer survivors?
Lovell: Yes. I feel that when they are done their treatment there’s no direction for them. It helps with their range of motion improves their balance and flexible and helps rebuild the muscles that were cut through surgery. It helps build their confidence their self esteem and they take control of their life back
Linda: You really have gotten a lot out of working with Lovell?
Woman: She's changed my whole life. After my cancer treatment had ended the first time I was diagnosed twice. Between the mastectomy, the chemo and the radiation you feel like you lost any semblance of your old life. She gave me my self-esteem back I felt beautiful inside and out. Lovell is pumping us up we got our life health and strength video and we can watch that whenever we want and it cheers us up. I have a DVD called life health and strength it’s especially for breast cancer survivors but anyone looking to get in shape can also use the DVD.
And anyone can count on Lovell to cheer up and shape up.
Linda: What are the barbells that match my outfit the best?
Lovell: Here you go the heaviest.
Linda: Oh
Lovell: I've gone from a size 10 12 to a size 0 – 2.
Linda: You also include nutrition in your training?
Lovell: You are what you eat. What are you going to have for lunch? You can go to the gym 6 days a week and work out for 3 to 5 hours and if you're eating pizza and beer it doesn't; do one thing for you because food is actually 80% of everything.
Linda: Your health is based on 80% nutrition and 20 % exercise?
Lovell: Yes. You have a great 20 % goin' there. I have 9 brothers and 2 sisters. For breakfast the first person to the table would eat… better take!
Linda: Your mother only had enough food for 7. (Laugh)
Actually, Lovell’s mom made enough for her 12 kids and now she spends time with her grandchildren while Lovell works and lives by what she preaches.
Linda: You make sure your kids are all eating well?
Lovell: They go grocery shopping with me and read the labels, when your kids come home from school try to have some fresh fruit on the counter so they're not looking for a sugar rush.
Linda: You exercise with the whole family?
Lovell: Yes I work out with my husband once a week for the workout that really kicks my butt and I believe everybody needs a push. The girls also have a game they love to game called DDR. There's mats you put on the floor and they watch the television and they have to follow the pattern so they work up a sweat and they don't even realize they're doing that.
Linda and Lovell dancing
Lovell: And even when you do realize it’s a workout, dancing games are fun ways for anyone to stay in shape. I like inspiring people. I look at Richard Simmons and I admire him because he have a group of people that he loves and they love him and I just feel like I found a group of people that I can help.
